The name of Richard Vale's son was Adrian Vale.
He was forty-six.
He had no criminal record.
He owned several legitimate businesses.
He donated to charities.
He appeared in newspapers as a successful businessman.
And according to the evidence we had just seen, he had inherited the network his father built.
Harris studied his file.
"Where is he?"
Mercer gave him an address.
The yellow-curtain house.
Noah closed his eyes.
"They took my parents there."
"Probably."
"And Lily."
"Yes."
Harris gathered his team.
Mercer remained beside us.
"I can get inside."
Harris shook his head.
"No."
"They know me."
"Exactly."
Mercer looked at him.
"If they recognize me, they'll kill Michael."
Harris considered it.
Then he asked me something unexpected.
"Claire, do you know anyone who can get close without raising suspicion?"
I understood immediately.
"No."
Then I looked at Noah.
He shook his head.
"I'm not going in alone."
Mercer nodded.
"You shouldn't."
We approached the property from three directions.
The house was dark.
No lights.
No vehicles.
Harris gave the signal.
Mercer walked toward the front door.
He knocked.
A light appeared.
The door opened.
A man stood there.
Adrian Vale.
He smiled.
"Daniel."
Mercer entered.
The door closed.
Minutes passed.
Then Harris's radio crackled.
"Movement."
Officers moved.
The operation happened quickly.
The back door opened.
Harris entered.
I remained outside with Noah and Tyler.
Then we heard shouting.
A gunshot.
Noah ran toward the house.
I grabbed his arm.
"No."
"My father!"
Harris emerged from the side door.
"Stay back."
Then Adrian Vale appeared behind him.
He was holding a folder.
"One step closer and this disappears."
Harris froze.
"What is it?"
"The original records."
The evidence Evan had hidden.
The documents Michael had protected.
The proof that could expose the entire network.
Adrian held them up.
"You think you understand what happened."
He looked at me.
"You don't."
I stepped forward.
"What did you do to my brother?"
"Nothing."
"You kept him hidden."
"I kept him alive."
That answer stunned me.
Adrian explained that his father had created the network.
But after Richard died, Adrian discovered how deep it went.
People were already moving against him.
He could either dismantle it slowly or inherit control.
He chose control.
Michael and Elena possessed evidence capable of destroying everything.
So Adrian kept them alive.
Not out of mercy.
Out of fear.
"They knew too much."
"And Noah?"
"Leverage."
Noah stepped forward.
"You ruined my life."
Adrian looked at him.
"Your father did that when he chose to fight."
Noah's face hardened.
"He chose to protect me."
Adrian smiled faintly.
"Yes."
Then the house behind him erupted with movement.
Mercer appeared.
He had freed Michael.
Elena was behind him.
Lily followed.
Noah ran.
Michael barely had time to stand before Noah reached him.
They stopped inches apart.
For a moment, neither moved.
Then Michael pulled his son into his arms.
Noah broke.
He held his father tightly.
Michael whispered something.
I couldn't hear it.
Elena approached me.
She looked older than the woman in my memories.
But her eyes were the same.
"You must be Claire."
I nodded.
"Michael talked about you."
I began to cry.
"Why didn't you come home?"
She looked toward Michael.
"Because every time we tried, someone was waiting."
Harris arrested Adrian.
The folder was secured.
The original financial records were finally in police custody.
But one question remained.
Evan.
Michael told us the truth.
Evan had survived.
He had escaped the first attempt on his life and spent years gathering evidence.
He had died only two years earlier from illness.
Before his death, he had given Michael the last documents.
Those documents were the ones hidden beneath the cemetery.
The grave had been unmarked because Evan had never wanted his location known.
He had been protecting Elena.
Protecting Lily.
Protecting Noah.
The mystery of his disappearance had finally been solved.
But there was another truth.
Michael had not been hiding only from Mercer or Vale.
He had been hiding because he believed anyone who knew where he was could be used against the people he loved.
Even me.
Especially me.
He looked at me.
"I was wrong."
I wiped my face.
"Yes."
He nodded.
"I should have trusted you."
I laughed through my tears.
"You should have."
For a moment, neither of us spoke.
Then I hugged my brother.
Twenty-one years collapsed into that embrace.
No apology could restore them.
But the silence was finally over.
Later, investigators recovered the original financial records.
They showed payments to shell companies, private investigators, compromised officials, and intermediaries.
They connected Mercer, Vale, and several others.
Mercer testified.
Rebecca gave a statement.
Thomas's role was confirmed.
He had betrayed Michael believing he was saving Rebecca.
He had been wrong.
The evidence also proved that Elena had never abandoned Noah.
Michael had never willingly abandoned him either.
And Noah finally understood that the emptiness he had carried since childhood had never been caused by his parents not loving him.
It had been caused by people who had used that love against them.
But one final piece remained.
Adrian had been asked why he kept Michael alive.
His answer was simple.
"Because he knew where the last account was."
Harris looked at Michael.
"What account?"
Michael smiled faintly.
"The one my father never found."
